The lawsuit against Strategic Financial Solutions involves allegations of running an illegal debt-relief enterprise. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), along with attorneys general from seven states, filed the suit accusing the company and its executives of collecting over $100 million in unlawful fees.
They purportedly operated through a network of shell companies and law firms, misleading consumers with false claims of legal debt-relief services and charging illegal upfront fees. The lawsuit, initiated in January 2024 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York, aims to halt these activities and holds company CEO Ryan Sasson and Jason Blust responsible for orchestrating the scheme.
The government secured a temporary restraining order on January 19, effectively shutting down the company and appointing a receiver to oversee its operations.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has recommended seeking out National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorney (NACBA) members for help.
